Luis Suarez has wished his international compatriot Darwin Nunez all the best at Liverpool. Nunez completed a move from Benfica after Liverpool agreed to pay a club-record fee for the striker.

Nunez penned a six-year deal at Anfield and has been tipped for major success by Suarez, who is also a former player of Liverpool.

Liverpool signed Suarez in 2011 from Ajax and he went on to bag 82 goals in 133 appearances, cementing his place as one of the best strikers that the club has ever had. Nunez will be hoping to replicate that stellar form of Suarez.

While exchanging pleasantries on social media, Nunez posted a photo of himself clad in a Liverpool jersey with the caption "Forever Uruguyan."

Suarez responded and reminded him that he was the first Uruguayan to play at Liverpool but wished his younger teammate all the best by saying:

I was the first one too! But I hope you come first in GOALS. Hug!

Nunez took cue from the message and responded as quoted by Sportbible.

I am proud to follow in your footsteps. I hope I can perform like you did in Liverpool.

Suarez is currently unattached after leaving Atletico Madrid at the end of the season.

Darwin Nunez almost quit football at the age of 17 years

Sports Brief had earlier reported that new details had emerged of how new Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez almost quit football at the age of 17. Nunez has benefitted from a stellar campaign with Benfica and will now be competing in one of the most lucrative leagues in the world next season.

But before all the stardom, Nunez had to deal with career-threatening injuries during his formative years. He was part of Jose Perdomo’s Penarol youth team.

it was Perdomo who convinced his parents to allow Nunez to travel over 400 miles to join an academy with other hopefuls.
