Only a single point separated the two English heavyweights, with the Sunday clash touted as a potential Premier League decider.

Man City surrenders lead twice

Man City had a terrific start to the clash as they took the lead inside six minutes of action through Kevin de Bruyne who lashed a left-footer that flicked off Matip and zoomed into the far side-netting.

However, City's lead was short-lived as Liverpool drew level in the 13th minute via Diogo Jota who beat Ederson with a clinical finish into the far corner.

Gabriel Jesus restored the home side's lead with 10 minutes left before the break only for Sadio Mnae to draw Liverpool level just 47 seconds into the second half with a riser high that Ederson had no chance on.

Raheem Sterling thought he had scored what should have been City's winner in the 63rd minute, but VAR intervened to chalk off the goal for an offside.

Riyad Mahrez had a chance to bag the three points for City in added time but fluffed the opportunity as the tie ended 2-2.

Meanwhile, the Sunday result has Man City topping the standings with 74 points, just one ahead of second-placed Liverpool.

Only seven matches are left to end the season even as the two English giants prepare to lock horns once again next weekend - but this time in the FA Cup.

Sadio Mane gatecrashes teammate's post-match interview

Earlier, Sports Brief reported there was a delightful post-match moment in the Liverpool-Benfica clash as Sadio Mane enjoyed a warm moment with teammate Luiz Diaz.

The duo were instrumental for Liverpool as the Reds cruised to a 3-1 win over their Portuguese counterparts in the first leg of the quarter-final.

After the match, Mane could not help but gush over his teammate, who has integrated seamlessly into Liverpool since moving to England in January
