  • Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz combined to devastating effect against Benfica in the Champions League
  • The pair each got a goal as Liverpool overcame their Portugal rivals 3-1 in the first leg
  • After the match, Mane could not help but gush over his teammate, who has integrated seamlessly in Liverpool since moving to England in January

There was a delightful moment post-match in the Liverpool-Benfica clash as Sadio Mane enjoyed a warm moment with teammate Luiz Diaz.

The duo were instrumental for Liverpool as the Reds cruised to a 3-1 win over their Portuguese counterparts in the first leg of the quarter final.

Ibrahima Konate had given Liverpool the lead in the 17th minute wtth a towering header, before Mane made it 2-0 with a clinical second in the 34th minute after some good work from Diaz.

Arsenal target Darwin Nunez halved the deficit early in the second half but Liverpool took control of the tie once again thanks to Diaz’s strike late on.

The win summed up Liverpool’s flawless form in recent months, and Jurgen Klopp’s side is well on course to grabbing an unlikely quadruple this season.

Impressive Diaz appreciated by Mane

Luis Diaz was once again instrumental for his new team and his goal made it his third for Liverpool since signing from FC Porto in January.

To his credit, the Colombian has taken no time to settle at Liverpool, who now have one of the most potent attacks in world football.

After the game, Diaz was being interviewed about his masterclass against Benfica and Sadio Mane took the opportunity to steal the show briefly by coming in to hug his new teammate.

Because Diaz was the one who assisted Mane for the Senegalese’s goal, it made sense that the pair appreciated each other after the match.

Salah’s performance vs Benfica

One player who surprised fans with his quiet demeanor during the Benfica game was Mohammed Salah.

Heading into the massive fixture, Salah had featured over 1,898 minutes in the year 2022 for the Reds and the Pharaohs of Egypt combined.

So far, the Egyptian has just managed just one goal in his last seven matches, and only two open play goals in 12 since his return from the Africa Cup of Nations.
