Following his tap-in in their 3-1 win over Benfica on Tuesday night, Liverpool’s Sadio Mane has equalled a Champions League record set by Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
The pair have now found the back of the net 13 times in the Champions League knockout phase since the 2017/18 season.
Mane scored from close range after he was easily set up by Luis Diaz to give Jurgen Klopp’s side a two-goal lead in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final in Lisbon.
Darwin Nunez handed the Portugal side a lifeline just after the break but Liverpool survived their scare as Luis Diaz restored their two-goal lead towards the end.
And speaking about his goal right after the game, Mane told BT Sport:
"Like I always say, winning is more important. I am happy to score the goal but happier that the team scored three goals and we are ready for the next game."
