Sadio Mané played a brotherly role by consoling a visibly distraught Mohamed Salah after Senegal defeated Egypt to win the Africa Cup of Nations last month in Cameroon.
Salah broke down in tears as he watched his Liverpool teammate convert the winning penalty for Senegal, losing his second AFCON finals.
However, Mané's words to Salah calmed him down and the Egyptian will be hoping to be lucky the next time.
“After we won the title, it was clear to me that he was very disappointed, I didn’t want to leave him like this,” Mané told l'Equipe.
“Salah would have done the same thing with me, if Egypt had been crowned champions.
“I told him simple words to help him push through and told him never to give up,” he added.
Sadio Mané will lead his Senegalese team against Egypt in the World Cup playoff later this month, and Salah would want a revenge.
Salah first lost an AFCON final in 2017, when Egypt lost 2-1 to Cameroon.
