FootballBoost for Chelsea as Top Liverpool Star Banned for Blues Clash
- Andy Robertson was handed a three-match ban after he picked a red card against Tottenham last weekend
- The Scottish has already served a ban in one match, having missed his side's thrilling comeback win over Leicester
- He was in line to return to action against Chelsea on new year's eve but he is unlikely to feature after Liverpool's clash vs Leeds was postponed
Liverpool face the prospect of playing Chelsea without Andy Robertson whose Premier League suspension is set to stretch until the new year.
Robertson was slapped with a three-match ban after he was red-carded for a reckless challenge during the Reds' meeting against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
The Scottish was handed marching orders in the second half of the explosive EPL clash just moments after he fell victim to a horror tackle from Harry Kane.
The full-back has already served suspension in one match having missed Liverpool's midweek clash against Leicester City.
He was due to miss his side's encounter against Leeds United in the Premier League and a rematch against the Foxes before returning to action when Jurgen Klopp's charges battle Chelsea on Sunday, January 2.
However, with Liverpool's Boxing Day meeting with Leeds now postponed, the Scot will play no role when his side takes on the Blues in their top-of-the-table clash.
Liverpool's tie with Leeds was cancelled on Thursday, December 23, after the latter lodged a request following a Covid-19 outbreak within its camp.
"Following postponement requests from Leeds United and Watford as a result of COVID-19, the Premier League Board met this morning and regrettably agreed to call off the two affected clubs’ Boxing Day fixtures,” a Premier League statement said.
"The two matches are Wolverhampton Wanderers v Watford and Liverpool v Leeds United, both due to be played on Sunday at 12:30 GMT," the statement added.
