Premier League club Liverpool will lose Mohamed Salah to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in January, but Nigerian legend Jay Jay Okocha says the Reds can cope, Liverpool Echo reports.
Salah will return to the national team to help in their quest for AFCON title and Liverpool will also lose Senegalese international Sadio Mane to the competition.
Okocha believes Jurgen Klopp’s side have enough players to continue their blistering form in the English topflight so far this season.
Naby Keita will also take part in the tournament after the turn of the year, but Okocha thinks Liverpool’s squad is good enough to say in the hunt for the Premier League title.
The former Bolton Wanderers captain said this to Ally McCoist and Gabriel Agbonlahor on their Talksport breakfast program. Okocha said via Complete Sports:
“Well, I think you can always put that into consideration, but I think they have a big squad. They must have done their homework, putting Africa Nations Cup into consideration.
“And then South American cups comes up in the summer, which deprives some players of their holidays.
“I think it’s all about how you manage your squad and whoever manages better in January, I think, stands a very good chance of winning the title.”

Meanwhile, following his appointment as manager of Spanish club Barcelona, Xavi Hernandez is already preparing for team rebuild at Camp Nou.
