Stuart Baxter Says He and Kaizer Motaung Jr Butted Heads at Kaizer Chiefs

Stuart Baxter has lifted the lid on his unsuccessful second stay at Kaizer Chiefs.

The Englishman revealed that he and the club's sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr did not see eye-to-eye.

Talking to SABC Sport, Baxter said:

"We (with Kaizer Jnr) butted heads very early, and I think he realised that if I was around, then all these things, he wanted to do were not going to be smooth. I wouldn't want to bring in a player I didn't need.

"We discussed the way forward for the club, new targets, who should stay and who should go, we didn't agree on a lot of those things, and I think, without saying it, it was just becoming a mission for him to try to make the changes he needed to proceed with his programme."

Sport24 also reported that Baxter believes his Covid-19 diagnosis in December - which affected a significant portion - might have been high noon, which precipitated his departure in April.

Baxter alleged that there were agendas within the club, which were going to affect him whether he was on board with them or not. He was the last coach to lead the Amakhosi to silverware, guiding them to an Absa Premiership and Nedbank Cup double in 2015.

Former referee and current television pundit Andile Ncobo has explained why the "wrong" player was shown a yellow card in the match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.

As reported by Sports Brief, Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana caused a foul and penalty after bringing down Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile in the box.

However, Zitha Kwinika, who was around five metres behind the action, was shown the yellow card, suggesting that it was a case of mistaken identity.
