FootballKaizer Chiefs Twitter Account Admin Responds Hilariously to Mamelodi Sundowns Trolling Carling Black Label Cup
- Shots fired years ago are starting to land as far as Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns' intriguing cross-city rivalry is concerned
- In 2018, Sundowns' Twitter account aimed a subtle dig at Chiefs' lack of silverware in recent years, mocking them about winning the unofficial Carling Black Label Cup
- Chiefs' social media administrator could only respond humorously in acknowledging the effectiveness of the jibe
Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns' rivalry became even more spicier by way of social media.
In 2018, the Brazilians' Twitter account ruthlessly trolled the Amakhosi's trophy drought, which at that point was three years long. It has since increase to seven years of frustration for South Africa's former "cup kings".
The tweet, accompanied by a video of Sundowns players mockingly lifting a kettle, read:
"Some play for Mielie Mielie, some for Beer & some for a cow, here's your winners of the Chloorkop 6v6 Coffee Cup! #spectacular #coffeecup"

The "beer" was a subtle jibe aimed at the Carling Black Label Cup that Chiefs, along with Orlando Pirates, had been reduced to playing for such was the mediocrity both Soweto giants had slid into. At least Pirates partially remedied their drought by winning the the 2020 MTN 8 tournament.
Four years after the troll tweet, the Amakhosi's social media manager could only respond with the famous meme of the instrumentalist James Poyser, who tried holding back a laugh of the American television programme The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The timing of Chiefs response can't be coincidental, as it was made a couple of hours after the Premier Soccer League announced the return of the league cup, the Carling Knockout Cup, which replaced the Telkom Knockout that ended in 2019. Sundowns won that tournament after beating Maritzburg United 2-1.
