FootballKaizer Chiefs Responds to Teboho Mokoena’s Agent’s Comments, Deny Not Doing Enough to Try and Sign Player
- Kaizer Chiefs have responded to criticism that they didn't do enough to sign Supersport United's Teboho Mokoena
- Teboho Mokoena joined Mamelodi Sundowns from Supersport United, rejecting Kaizer Chiefs and other clubs
- Fans complained that Kaizer Chiefs and other Premier Soccer League clubs were not doing enough to sign players
Kaizer Chiefs' communications manager Vina Maphosa has spoken out about the Amakhosi's interest in Teboho Mokoena and why it didn't work out.
Maphosa's comments came after Teboho Mokoena's agent Glyn Binkin said that other clubs, including Chiefs, showed interest in the player but didn't pursue it further.
“There was interest, from Kaizer Chiefs in particular, but I think they didn't engage further with SuperSport.
"I think there was an initial discussion and that discussion wasn't taken any further,” Binkin told Times LIVE.
Teboho Mokoena has since signed for Mamelodi Sundowns, Soccer Laduma reported.
Maphosa though has commented on Binkin's statement saying that just because Mokoena didn't sign for Chiefs doesn't mean that Amakhosi didn't try hard enough to sign the midfielder.
Fans on social media were critical of Chiefs and other Premier Soccer League teams for not doing more to keep up with Sundowns signing of players.
@DBaleni:
"This is a political response by Bro Vina. It’s neither here nor there. The question is, why must @KaizerChiefs come second all the time we competing with Sundowns for a player. Our team needed Teboho Mokoena more than Downs. We will lose on Mbule too. Disappointing"
@1NilSportHQ:
"When Stuart Baxter was asked about Teboho Mokoena he said the player was too expensive for Kaizer Chiefs and now in January the same player is signing for Mamelodi Sundowns. End of story"
@PatBafo:
"Orlando Pirates fans are crying as if their team was after the signature of Teboho Mokoena. Are they crying because Teboho chose Sundowns over Chiefs?"

FootballMokoena has the been topic of much transfer talk in January and attracted interest from Anderlecht in Belgium as well. But as The South African reports, it's the Brazilians who won the race for the highly sought-after midfielder.
According to Front Runner Sports though, Mamelodi Sundowns have 14 midfield options signed to the club already. It's for this reason that many have accused the club of killing off the competition on social media.
