Kaizer Chiefs’ Case Heads to Arbitration, South African Football Association to Rule on Amakhosi’s Issue

Kaizer Chiefs legal battle with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) could be resolved today as the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) will hear Chiefs' arbitration case.

Kaizer Chiefs were charged by the PSL for failing to honour two fixtures in 2021 but the club blamed Covid19 for the issue, saying that they could not field a team.

The Amakhosi appealed the matter but the PSL's Disciplinary Committee denied the application. As a result, Kaizer Chiefs went one further and took the matter to SAFA, The South African confirmed.

The Sowetan giants hired a top legal team to fight the issue and their arbitration case will be heard today.

The PSL's Disciplinary Committee postponed the outcome of the original case against Kaizer Chiefs to February 25.

The PSL's Prosecutor, Zola Majavu confirmed to Times LIVE that it all depended on the arbitration case.

“The matter was postponed to February 25 at 4pm. Of course, depending on the outcome of the arbitration, it may well be that the matter may not proceed in the current format.

“Should the arbitration be finalised before then the prosecutor [Majavu] was directed to communicate with the DC members as to the next intended course of action, mindful of the fact that no-one at this stage knows what the outcome of that referral to arbitration may be.”

If still found guilty, Kaizer Chiefs will be forced to forfeit the two fixtures, missing out on six possible points in the process.

In other Premier Soccer League news, Bernard Parker's contract with Kaizer Chiefs is coming to an end and the Amakhosi legend has started looking at life after football, Sports Brief earlier reported.

Bernard Parker signed for the Amakhosi in 2011 and has gone on to become the club's leading goalscorer in the Premier Soccer League era. Now at 35-years-old, Parker is thinking about life after football according to his agent, The South African reported.

Parker started his career in 2004 at Thanda Royal Zulu and soon became a legend for clubs and country. According to Goal.Com, Parker's agent Mike Makaab said they hadn't held talks with Kaizer Chiefs as yet but would wait and see what happens in the next few months.
