Ajara Njoya Nchout, one of Africa's best female footballer, has revealed that her biggest football inspiration is Ghana's legend Asamoah Gyan.

The Cameroon star who came close to winning the best African female footballer last night disclosed that the former Ghana captain motivated her choice of jersey number.

Ajara Njoya in an interview with Ghanaian sports journalist, Benjamin Willie Graham, said she has been a big fan of Gyan since she was a kid.

“I wear the Number 3 shirt because of Asamoah Gyan. When I was young and I was watching the World Cup, Asamoah Gyan was very big player for me. That has been my motivation," she said.

“I love him, I met him once in 2018. But I don’t know, He doesn’t know me. I want him to know I wear the number three because of him."

Asamoah Gyan is revered on the continent, and holds the record of being Africa's top scorer at the FIFA World Cup. He is Ghana's all-time leading scorer.

Ajara Nchout Njoya had a descent Women Africa Cup of Nations, scoring the decisive goal as Cameroon secure a play-offs spot for the FIFA Women's World Cup qualifiers.

The Inter Milan star was beaten to the African female footballer award by Nigeria and Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala.

Ghana's Evelyn Badu wins best young female footballer at CAF awards

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Evelyn Badu has been crowned the Confederation of African Football's best female young footballer at the awards in Morocco on Thursday night.

The Black Princesses captain beats off competition from ex-teammate Doris Boaduwaa and Morocco's youngster Yasmine Zouhir.

Badu won the award following her scintillating display in the inaugural edition of CAF Women's Champions League.
