Italy showed character to bounce back from their recent slump in form to earn a deserved win 2-1 against Hungary in their Nations League group A3 encounter.
Nicolo Barella and Lorenzo Pellegrini were the heroes for the Azurri as their first-half goals were enough to deter any late comeback from Hungary.
Italy coach, Roberto Mancini was hoping for a perfect response from his team after losing to Argentina 3-0 in the Finalissima before earning a 1-1 draw in their Nations League opener against Germany.
Barella and Pellegrini shine for Italy
Italy dominated the game against Hungary in the game played in Cesena, and they deservedly took the lead at the half-hour mark through Inter Milan star Barella.
Pellegrini will double Italy’s advantage just before halftime after the Roma attacker cooly slotted in to give the Azurri a 2-0 lead at the break.
Italy were however forced to hold on for the win after Hungary halved the deficit through an own goal from Gianluca Mancini to bring the game to a nervy end for Roberto Mancini’s men.
The win for Italy now takes the Azurri top of Group 3 with 4 points from their first two games, 1 point ahead of Hungary who are second on the table ahead of Germany and England.
