Former Ghana and Feyenoord defender Christian Gyan dies at 43

Christian Gyan, famously known as Atta Rasta, a former Ghana and Feyenoord player has passed on at the age of 43, according to GHANASoccernet.com.

The ex-footballer reportedly passed on in a hospital in the Netherlands where has been basing for sometime now.

In a report by GHANASoccernet, sighted by SportsBrief, the 43-year-old died after losing his battle with cancer.

Christian Gyan was part of the Black Starlets team that won the FIFA U17 World Cup in Ecuador 1995.

He joined Dutch giants Feyenoord in 1997 following his exploits in the youth leagues in Ghana. He spent ten years at Feyenoord but was twice sent on loan at Excelcior.

He was a member of the Feyenoord team that won the UEFA Cup in 2002 after beating Dortmund 3-2 in the final. He featured in that game.

He also spent time at TPS, Wrexham and RoPS.

According to GHANASoccernet, Feyenoord fans contributed €35,000 to support his medicals bill.

Tributes have been pouring in for the Feyenoord cult hero.

"Rest in peace, Christian Gyan. 1978 - 2021," adds Kuip Talk, a Feyenoord fan page.
"Christian Gyan has died at the age of 43. RIP King," added football 247.
"Sometimes the story of a player from another club touches you. Christian Gyan was one of them," wrote Provie.
"Rest in peace warrior," adds Jay.
