Legendary Ghanaian footballer, Stephen Appiah will have a new astro-turf built by the government of Ghana for the people of Mamprobi named in honor of him.
The ex-Black Stars captain turned 41 on Friday, December 24, 2021.
In honour of his contributions to the country in football, the government has decided to name the newly constructed pitch after him.
"Former Black Stars Captain, Asamoah Gyan, Laryea Kingston, Sulley Mutari, Agyeman Badu, John Paintsil, Derek Boateng, Isaac Vorsah and Anthony Baffoe will be special guests at the Mamprobi Girls on December, 24 when Stephen Appiah will officially unveil the plaque to signify the naming of the “Capitano” after the new community Sports and social facility," wrote GHANASoccernet.
Stephen Appiah is also been celebrated by former clubs including Hearts of Oak and Juventus.
"It's a legend's birthday. A true phobian. Happy Birthday el Capitano. Happy Birthday," Hearts wrote on their Twitter handle.
Stephen Appiah is revered in Ghana for leading the Black Stars to their first ever FIFA World Cup in 2006. The 41-year-old played a pivotal role in Germany 2006.
He was also part of the Black Stars team that reached the quarter finals of the World Cup in 2010.
These days he works with different brands as an ambassador, including the Total Energies.
Stephen Appiah welcomes AFCON title
Earlier, SportsBrief.com reported that, former Ghana internationals, Stephen Appiah and Derek Boateng were present as the AFCON trophy arrived in Ghana for a two day tour.
The Total AFCON trophy will make it way through most of the Total Stations as part of activities to raise awareness of the competition next year.
In photos posted on Twitter, sighted by SportsBrief, Stephen Appiah, an ambassador of Total Energies and former teammate Derek Boateng were on sight to receive the trophy.
