  • The four-time African champions are on the verge of qualifying for AFCON 2023
  • Second-half substitute Osman Bukari scored to earn Ghana a vital away point

Osman Bukari needed only sixty seconds to make an impact after scoring immediately following his introduction in the game against Angola.

The Black Stars conceded early in the second half after Reading striker Lucas Joao scored from the penalty spot.

The hosts started the game brightly with midfielder Fredy testing Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi from long range after just eight minutes.

Angola kept Ghana at bay for most of the start with Helder Costa, Gelson and Lucas Joao causing troubles for the Black Stars defence.

Midway through the first half, Ghana came close after a swift interplay between Mohammed Kudus and Edmund Addo, which left the Serbia-based player with a chance to open the scoring but shot wide.

The Palancas Negras threatened few minutes before the break, after winger Costa broke off from the right, but wasted the chance in the end.

Just after the break, Angola were awarded a penalty after Daniel Amartey impeded Gelson inside the box. Lucas Joao made no mistake after sending Ati Zigi the wrong way to open the scoring.

Moments later, Chris Hughton replaced Kamaldeen Sulemana and Antoine Semenyo with Joseph Painstil and Inaki Williams.

The hosts nearly doubled their lead through Ary Papel after taking on Kingsley Schindler before his strike was blocked by Amartey.

Red Star Belgrade winger Osman Bukari and Anderlecht star Majeed Ashimeru then replaced Mohammed Kudus and Edmund Addo. Just under a minute Paintsil combined with Bukari for the leveller.

Paintsil came close to giving Ghana the lead after his effort hit the cross-bar moments later.

Moments later, Williams met a brilliant cross from Abdul Samed Salis before Paintsil was stopped by brave defending from Carneiro.

Ghana will next face the Central African Republic at home before travelling to Madagascar for the final group game.

Andre Ayew to miss Angola clash

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the Black Stars of Ghana will be without four players when they travel to Luanda to play Angola in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Captain, Andre Ayew and defenders Mohammed Salisu, Alexander Djiku, and Dennis Odoi have all been ruled out of the match due to injuries.

Djiku and Odoi started the home game against Angola on Thursday as the Black Stars secured a hard-fought 1-0 win.
