New coach of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton held his first training with the team as preparations begin for the upcoming AFCON qualifier against Angola.

A handful of players including captain, Andre Ayew reported to training on Monday with the rest of the team expected later this week.

Hughton had the available players go through rigorous drills as they maintain their sharpness ahead of Thursday's encounter.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion manager named a 25-man squad for the double-header against the Palancas Negras.

The four-time African champions will host Angola in Kumasi on March 23, before travelling to Luanda for the second leg four days later.

The Black Stars need to beat Angola home and away to guarantee their place at next year's Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Hughton has been handed a 21-month contract, which will see him in charge of the Black Stars until December 2024.

He is expected to lead the west Africans to AFCON success next year. The last time Ghana won the Nations Cup was in 1982 and they have come close three times since.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Hughton being unveiled as coach of Ghana's senior national team, the Black Stars.

The former Newcastle United manager is contracted to the west African country's national team until late 2024.

At a short ceremony in Kumasi, Hughton shared his excitement and hopes to lead Ghana back to their glory days.

Hughton addresses Thomas Partey's role

Sports Brief also reported on Hughton addressing the role of Thomas Partey as a Black Stars player and an Arsenal midfielder.

The Gunners rising star has been criticised for not giving his best to his home country while excelling for the Premier League side.

However, Hughton insists Partey's roles at club and country differ slightly but do not take away how important he is to the team.
