Chris Hughton has been unveiled as the new coach of Ghana's senior national team, the Black Stars.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion manager will be in charge of the Black Stars until December 2024.

At a short ceremony in Kumasi, Hughton shared his excitement and hopes to lead the four-time African champions back to their glory days.

"To represent Ghana and the Black Stars as the head coach is something I am incredibly proud of," he said, as quoted by GHANASoccernet.com.

"It’s something I’ll give everything to make the team as successful as possible. I’ll give everything to make sure the communication and relationship I have with this association and the supporters," he added.

The 64-year-old's first task in charge of the Black Stars will be in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola on Thursday in Kumasi.

Hughton will meet the squad tonight at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for the first training session.

"Our game is about support – from the association, but mostly, the support from the huge array of fans we have and that starts with a very difficult game at Kumasi on Thursday," continued Hughton.

The Black Stars sit top of Group E and victory in the double-header could secure Ghana qualification to AFCON 2023.

Chris Hughton appointed Ghana coach

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Chris Hughton has been appointed the new head coach of the Ghana national team.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United manager will be assisted by ex-Aston Villa midfielder, George Boateng and former Ghana international, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani.

All three technical men worked with Otto Addo during the World Cup in Qatar, with Hughton serving as technical advisor.

George Afriyie backs Hughton's appointment

George Afriyie, the former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, has backed new Black Stars coach Chris Hughton for success with the national team.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion manager was appointed head coach of the Black Stars last month, having played the role of a technical advisor for a year.

According to Mr. Afriyie, Hughton should have been the coach of the Black Stars at the World Cup and has firm belief in the 63-year-old to lead the Black Stars to glory.
