Asamoah Gyan has disclosed that he practiced penalties before Ghana faced Uruguay, in the quarter-final of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The ex-Black Stars captain went on to miss a crucial penalty that would have seen Ghana become the first country in Africa to reach the semi-final.
According to the 37-year-old, he scored twenty penalties in training and was confident of converting against Uruguay.
“A day before the Uruguay game, I shot 20 penalties against our goalkeeper at training,” Gyan told FIFA in an interview as quoted by Pulse. "I scored all 20."

Gyan explained that he was going to the left of the goalkeeper when he noticed him shift to the right, as the kick was being taken.
“He feinted me and then he went to where the ball was going. I didn’t know how the ball went up. Technically, there was something wrong. I didn’t have the right technique.”
Despite missing the penalty, the Black Stars legend scored in the shootouts but Ghana still lost 4-2 to Uruguay.
Ghana will be making a return to the global showpiece this month, after edging out rivals Nigeria in the World Cup play-offs.
The four-time African champions have been drawn in a tough Group H alongside Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.
