George Boateng has resigned from his role as Aston Villa U23 coach to concentrate on his work as Black Stars assistant coach.

The former Aston Villa player leaves the club after three years in charge of the youth team,

The Ghanaian-born ex-Dutch international announced his resignation on Instagram as he switches his attention to national team football.

"Leaving Aston Villa after 3 wonderful seasons was not an easy decision but having the opportunity to coach my country at the World Cup was too good to turn down," he wrote on Instagram.

"I have learned so much and I’m grateful for the time spent at this beautiful, amazing club. I want to thank the players, staff and the fans for their wonderful support and I wish the club every success in the future. As for now I will concentrate on my role as the Assistant Coach of Ghana ahead of the World Cup," he added.

George Boateng was confirmed assistant coach of the Black Stars in April after he and Otto Addo led the Black Stars to World Cup qualification.

Ghana have been drawn in Group H alongside 2016 European champions France, Asian giants South Korea and inaugural winners Uruguay.

The Black Stars start their World Cup adventure on November 24 against Portugal, before playing South Korea and Uruguay in their second and third games respectively.

Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo scores on injury return

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo made a scoring return following his injury comeback for English Championship side Bristol City.

Semenyo scored Bristol's third goal in the 3-1 victory over Wycombe in the first round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

The Black Stars striker was making his return from injury since June, after picking a knock while on international duty with Ghana.
