Ghana Legend Sulley Muntari Identifies Former Teammate Who Made Black Stars Successful

Sulley Muntari has singled out former teammate and Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Kingston for praise.

The ex-Inter and AC Milan star insists Kingston played an important role in the Black Stars teams of the early 2000's.

Sulley Muntari, who plays for Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League, attributed fifty percent of the team's success to the former Blackpool and Wigan shot-stopper.

"For me when I talk about the Black Stars from that time, it's all about midfield and defence," he said on GTV Sports Plus as quoted by Ghanaweb.

"The defence starts from Olele (Richard Kingston). For me if I am playing and the ball goes behind I don't look because there is Olele, John Mensah is there.

"But when there is a shot or a hit, I just turn around because I know that is the confidence I have in that guy. He was everything for us. He was 50% of our team."

Sulley Muntari and Richard Kingston were part of the Ghana team that reached the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup in their first participation at the global showpiece.

The pair made history with the Black Stars by reaching the quarter-final of the FIFA World Cup four years later in South Africa.

Kingston played for several clubs in the English Premier League, including Wigan and Blackpool.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Sulley Muntari is ready to sign a new deal at Accra Hearts of Oak after a successful six months with the Ghanaian giants.

The former Inter Milan midfielder helped the Phobians win the FA Cup and the President Cup during his short-term spell with the club.

Muntari, who has not played for the Black Stars since the 2014 World Cup, also disclosed his desire to help the national team.
