Ghana Legend Opens Up on His Painful Exclusion From Black Stars Squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup

Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has shed light on missing out on the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament in South Africa.

Kingston, a key member of the Black Stars, was inexplicably omitted from the 23-man squad for the global showpiece by head coach Milovan Rajevac.

Taking a trip down memory to recollect how he was seemingly denied a chance of representing Ghana at the quadrennial tournament, Kingston confessed the shock omission dealt a huge blow to his career.

"The 2010 World Cup was the one that finished me. Immediately after the 2006 World Cup, I joined the team again and I played all the games in the qualifiers the friendly games and I was out again,” he said on MX24 TV via Ghana Guardian.

He continued: “I was not on suspension and I don’t know what happened. A day before they moved to South Africa, I was asked to go home. I am still searching for answers and criteria they used to take me out.”

Laryea, one of the most loyal servants of the Black Stars at the time, is still dumbfounded on why he was snubbed for the World Cup.

“I look at the squad and I don’t see myself going out of the 23-man squad. I was playing regularly on my team, I don’t like talking about this but it’s the decision of whoever made that decision.

“It's something that keeps ringing in my head because if you ask me if I enjoyed my career I would say yes apart from that me not enjoying the World Cup and that is it.”

Laryea Kingston opens up on how he fled Libya just six months after signing a 3-year deal

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Ghana footballer, Laryea Kingston says he had to leave Libya after six months of signing a three-year contract with Al Ittihad because life was tough in the North African country.

The former Black Stars winger revealed he left because the club failed to pay him despite playing regularly for six months.

In an interview with Joy FM, the Right to Dream Academy youth developmental coach explained the ordeal he went through in Libya.
