Black Stars defender Gideon Mensah played a crucial role in Bordeaux's triumph in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday.
The 23-year-old assisted a goal as Bordeaux secured a 3-1 victory over Metz to boost their survival in the French top-flight.
The Ghana international started the game off the bench as he helped his side seal all the three points to move to 19th on the table.
Mensah came on in the second half for Stian Gregersen of the cagey clash with the latter picking up an injury.
The left-full back made an immediate impact after five minutes of his introduction in the 69th minute when he set up M'Baye Niang to extend the home side’s lead.
Ivorian attacker Didier Lamkel Ze opened the scoring in the first half but Ricardo Mangas grabbed the equaliser early in the second half for Bordeaux. Senegal international Niang scored Bordeaux second goal, thanks to an assist by Mensah, to put the home side ahead.
Hwang Ui-jo added a late third as Bordeaux switched places with Metz in the bottom two and moved to within a point of Saint-Etienne in the relegation play-off place.
How Gideon Mensah fared against Metz
Mensah starred in defence and played 27 minutes of the game for Bordeaux to help earn a first victory under coach David Guion and climb off the foot of the Ligue 1 table.
