  • Eric Bekoe has suggested to the Ghana Football Association to build the capacity of the local league to produce top talents who can serve the Black Stars
  • He made this suggestion owing to the recent pursuit of the GFA to beef up the Black Stars ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup
  • Bekoe believes persuading players to play for the national team is not wrong however if the local players are of a high standard the country won't resort to 'begging'

Erstwhile Asante Kotoko star Eric Bekoe has provided solutions to the Ghana Football Association in addressing the series of call-up declines to the Black Stars.

The football federation has been in hot pursuit of players born in the diaspora to switch allegiance to the West African nation in a bid to reinforce the Black Stars.

However, their attempts have failed to yield positive dividends with attempts of luring Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah, Callum Hudson-Odoi of Chelsea, Tariq Lamptey and a host of others are yet to see the day of light.

With the Black Stars sealing qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, a school of thought has propounded the GFA should aggressively pursue the aforementioned players in conjunction with Mohammed Salisu - who has received some backlash for his previous snubs.

But retired footballer turned coach Eric Bekoe is of the opinion that if the GFA invest and builds the capacity of the local league to churn out top stars the country will not be left in precarious positions of 'begging' footballers to play for Ghana.

“It’s never wrong to persuade Ghanaian born players to play for Ghana because it happens elsewhere. It’s time to build the confidence of our local players to reach high standards to avoid players snubbing our national team invitation; it’s a disgrace to the GFA.” He told Accra-based Hot FM as quoted by Sports World Ghana.

Retired Black Stars defender believes Ghana needs Mohammed Salisu at the 2022 World Cup

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that ex-Ghana international Sam Johnson believes the Black Stars will need the services of Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu at the forthcoming World Cup in Qatar.

Discussions of the relevance of Mohammed Salisu to the national team have been rife following Ghana's qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

With many divided on whether the 22-year-old towering defender should be invited for the Mundial, a former Black Stars defender has weighed into the discourse.
