Portugal's Ronaldo likely to break Asamoah Gyan's enviable record

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo could be the footballer to break Asamoah Gyan’s scoring record at the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Manchester United forward equalled Gyan's record of scoring in nine successive major international tournaments after he netted in Portugal's 3-0 triumph over Hungary in the Euro 2020 last year June.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner grabbed a brace against the Magyars which saw him join Gyan as the only player to score in nine consecutive major international tournaments.

Ghanaians call for inclusion of Asamoah Gyan in Black Stars squad ahead of World Cup

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that football fans in Ghana have called for the inclusion of legendary attacker Asamoah Gyan in the Black Stars squad to play at the 2022 World Cup to exact revenge on Uruguay.

Ghana suffered heartbreak at the Mundial 12 years ago when Asamoah Gyan's last-gasp penalty kissed the crossbar to deny the West African nation from making history.

Prior to Gyan's missed penalty, Dominic Adiyiah's header in a goalmouth melee was stopped by ex-Barcelona star Luis Suarez with his hands.
