Four times African champions, Ghana have been drawn alongside European heavyweights Portugal, former World Champions Uruguay and South Korea.

The Black Stars will open their campaign at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with a blockbuster clash against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal.

Ghana are appearing at the World Cup for the fourth time after missing the 2018 edition in Russia.

Ghana's last game at the FIFA World Cup was a defeat against Portugal, a game Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winner.

The Black Stars qualified for the World Cup after urging the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a two-legged playoff earlier this week. Ghana were held to a goalless draw in the first leg in Kumasi at the Baba Yara sports stadium before Thomas Partey's goal in Abuja proved decisive after the 1-1 draw. 

Ghana is making her fourth appearance at the Mundial, after appearing at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 editions. The Black Stars missed Russia 2018.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Thomas Partey's 10th-minute goal proved too costly for the Super Eagles as it eliminated Nigeria from the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Super Eagles had been optimistic about getting a victory against the Black Stars after holding the Ghanaians to a goalless draw in the first leg in Kumasi.

The 60,000 capacity Moshood Abiola Stadium had been packed full of supporters who came to cheer the Super Eagles to victory but left disappointed after the final whistle.

Ghana and Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has reacted for the first time since guiding Ghana to its fourth FIFA World Cup appearance.

Partey came up clutch for the Black Stars when his pile driver from the edge of the box was more than enough to qualify Ghana for the 2022 World Cup on the away goal rule.
