FootballFormer Ghana Coach Kwesi Appiah Salutes Otto Addo Led Technical Team After World Cup Qualification
- James Kwesi Appiah has showered praise on the Black Stars technical team following Ghana's World Cup qualification
- Ghana pulled a 1-1 draw in Abuja to book a World Cup ticket at the expense of age-long rivals Nigeria
- The soft-spoken tactician became the first Ghanaian coach to qualify the Black Stars for the World Cup in 2014
Ex-Ghana head coach Kwesi Appiah has commended the four-man Black Stars technical team on the back of securing a World Cup berth.
Ghana assembled a four-man technical team comprising former international Otto Addo, ex-Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton, Mas-ud Didi Dramani and former Dutch player of Ghanaian heritage George Boateng for the World Cup play-offs.
And the decision to assemble the four tacticians by the Ghana Football Association paid off in grand style when they led the Black Stars to World Cup qualification last night.
The Black Stars played out a scoreless draw in the first leg staged in Kumasi before pulling the chestnut out of the blazing fire in Abuja when Otto Addo's charges drew 1-1 with the Super Eagles to qualify for Qatar on away goal rule.
Sharing his opinion on Ghana's feat chalked in Abuja, Kwesi Appiah applauded the efforts of the four-man technical team.
"I commend the Black Stars technical team for their tactical execution, their tactical changes helped the team a lot to seal the qualification, I think the technical team did a good job," he told Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM.
How did Kwesi Appiah guide Ghana to the 2014 FIFA World Cup?
Appiah led the four-time African champions to Brazil in 2014 in a grand style when his charges handed Egypt their worst defeat when Ghana won by 6-1 in the first leg of the World Cup play-offs.
The comprehensive results in Kumasi rendered the reverse fixture in Cairo a mere academic exercise as the Pharaohs won 2-1, with the Black Stars qualified for a third successive World Cup.
After missing out on the last edition of the World Cup, the Black Stars knew making a return to the global showpiece will not be a jolly ride, especially when they were paired with age-long rivals Nigeria in the play-offs.

FootballMan-of-the-moment Otto Addo deflects praise to other coaches after Ghana sealed World Cup qualification
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that interim manager of the Black Stars Otto Addo has underlined the value of teamwork following Ghana's qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Otto Addo, a former Ghana international, was appointed as coach of the Black Stars on an interim basis following the sack of Milovan Rajevac.
Despite his brief time with the team, Otto's handwriting was visible in the team's performance as he managed to instil his tactics and style of play on the team within a short span of period.
