English League Two side Swindon Town have expressed pride in seeing their number one goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott lead Ghana's Black Stars to the 2022 World Cup.

Wollactott put up a heroic display in the two legs as Ghana defeated Nigeria via the away goal ruling to make it to Qatar.

The club took to social media to celebrate the 25-year-old in a series of tweets, showing how proud they are to have.

"Huge congrats to our very own Jojo Wollacot on helping Ghana qualify for the 2022 World Cup. It is an incredible achievement and we're all very proud of you, Jojo!," the club wrote on Twitter in an earlier post.

With the shot-stopper being the only player from the club to achieve such a feat, Swindon returned with another tweet.

"He stuck with us back in the summer, and now he's off to a World Cup. Freaking amazing. Our guy," read a second tweet.

Wollacott's save in the first leg from a Moses Simon strike was decisive in the tie, before a series of outstanding stops in Abuja helped Ghana qualify.

"The Reds will now have a player represent them at the World Cup later this year. Wollacott was brilliant against Nigeria, making some key saves and he is likely to be the first choice for Ghana at the World Cup after establishing himself for his country," wrote the club on their official website.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Thomas Partey's 10th-minute goal proved too costly for the Super Eagles as it eliminated Nigeria from the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Super Eagles had been optimistic about getting a victory against the Black Stars after holding the Ghanaians to a goalless draw in the first leg in Kumasi.

The 60,000 capacity Moshood Abiola Stadium had been packed full of supporters who came to cheer the Super Eagles to victory but left disappointed after the final whistle.
