Ghana has been handed a major injury boost ahead of the second instalment of the FIFA World Cup play-offs.

The much-anticipated first-leg of the West African derby rechristened the 'Jollof Derby' was staged at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium last night.

Key among the highlights of the game was the performance of AS Roma teen sensation, Felix Afena-Gyan.

His energy, press and runs proved to be a major headache for the Nigerian defence.

Despite not scoring, his total contribution and sense of urgency were appreciated by the massive crowd gathered at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Unfortunately, Afena-Gyan's evening was truncated when he suffered a slight knock while chasing for a lose ball and was replaced by Daniel Kofi-Kyereh in the 82nd minute for the medical team to access the injury situation.

But delivering the good news Ghanaians have been clamouring for, Gyan hinted he will be fit for the return leg.

In a post on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief, Afena-Gyan declared himself fit and ready for the reverse fixture.

Ghana's World Cup ambitions are still intact and will have to pull a scoring draw or stun Nigeria at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Tuesday, March 29.

Ghanaians shower praises on AS Roma starlet Afena-Gyan

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghanaians were full of praise for AS Roma teenager Felix Afena-Gyan following his impressive performance against Nigeria on Friday.

The 19-year-old made his long-awaited debut for the Black Stars after he was given a starting role in the attack to help Ghana score and also give the Nigerian backline pressure.

Ghana and Nigeria’s World Cup hopes remain in the balance after a tight first leg finished goalless in their playoff tie.
