  • Players of the senior national team of Ghana each received an appearance fee for playing at AFCON 2021
  • The Spokesperson of the Ghana Football Association revealed each player received $20,000 for making the trip to Cameroon
  • The Black Stars performed poorly and were eliminated from the group stages of the Nations Cup after failing to win a game

Players of the Black Stars each received an amount of $20,000 as an appearance fee for playing at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, according to the spokesperson of the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum.

The Black Stars failed to win a game at the tournament in Cameroon, which meant they did not receive any winning bonus.

In an interview with Starr FM, the head of communications at the FA confirmed the amount received by each player.

"The Black Stars players were paid an appearance fee of 20,000 dollars each, they didn’t earn any bonus because they did not win a single game," he said on Starr FM.

According to the former sports journalist, the Ghana Football Association budgeted an amount of $4 million for the tournament, which included expenses for camping in Doha.

"We sent a budget of 4million dollars to the Sports Ministry for the Afcon but the GFA can't tell how much we spent, only the Sports Ministry can tell us," he added.

The Black Stars had their worst ever nations cup after failing to win a single game in Group C, losing two and drawing one.

The performance of the team led to the sacking of Serbian trainer Milovan Rajevac, and the FA is in search of a new trainer.

"I have not heard the Sports Minister any where says he want Chris Houghton so as it stands we are going with Otto Addo. We are yet to have a meeting with the Sports Ministry on our choice of coach," said Henry Asante Twum.

John Painstil wants Kwesi Appiah to handle Ghana versus Nigeria game

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that a member of Ghana's 2010 World Cup team, John Painstil, has suggested that the Ghana Football Association appoints Kwesi Appiah as coach of the Black Stars for the game against Nigeria.

The Black Stars are without a coach ahead of their crucial World Cup qualifier against the Super Eagles in March.

And John Painstil feels the clock is ticking as the GFA continues its search for a new coach, while Kwesi Appiah is available for the role.
