Former Arsenal Midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong Believes Ghana Will Qualify for World Cup Ahead of Nigeria

• Emmanuel Frimpong is confident the Black Stars will beat Nigeria and qualify for the World Cup in Qatar
• The four times African champions were drawn against their rivals in the World Cup qualifiers play-offs
• Ghana wants to make a return at the tournament after missing the 2018 edition in Russia four years ago

Former Arsenal and Ghana midfielder, Emmanuel Frimpong, has no doubts the Black Stars will qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar despite a poor AFCON showing.

Ghana was paired against Nigeria in the World Cup qualifiers play-offs draw held in Douala on Saturday, January 22, 2022.

Ahead of the two legged games to be played in March, Frimpong, who now works as an AFCON pundit on Ghana's national television said the Black Stars will triumph over Nigeria.

“The Black Stars have suffered a huge backlash after their poor display in the AFCON 2021 and because of that, I see them beating Nigeria in the WC playoffs," said Frimpong on GTV Sports Plus.

The four times African champions will hosts Nigeria in the first leg in Accra before traveling to Lagos for the second leg in seven days time.

The winner of the two legged game will qualify for the tournament to be held in Qatar later this year.

Ghana, who made it to the World Cup three times on a row, between 2006 to 2014, missed the 2018 edition in Russia and are hoping to make a return at the global showpiece.

Ghana to face Nigeria in World Cup play-offs

Earlier, SportsBrief.com reported that, Nigeria has been drawn to face arch-rivals Ghana for a spot at the 2022 World Cup holding in Qatar as the draws were conducted on Saturday, January 22 in Douala, Cameroon.

The Super Eagles will be bidding to qualify for a sixth world cup appearance having previously represented Africa at the biggest football showpiece in 1994, 1998, 2002, 2010 and 2014 with only 2006 the last time Nigeria failed to qualify for the World Cup.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have scheduled the dates for the playoffs in the month of March with the Ghanaians hosting the first leg in Accra in March while the reverse fixture will be played in Nigeria on March 29.
