Christian Atsu, the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations Player of the Tournament, has said Ghana can win the Nations Cup in Cameroon this year.
According to the Saudi-based winger, the Black Stars has a strong team, with a blend of experience and youthful exuberance to make history at AFCON 2021.
Many Black Stars fans remain doubtful of the team's ability to compete after the 3-0 defeat to Algeria in a friendly, but Atsu who was speaking to 3 Sports has urged the nation to support the squad in Cameroon.
“We have young players but some people are complaining about their lack of experience. I am surprised people are still complaining about young players because for me, it doesn’t matter whether you are young or old it is all about what you can do on the pitch," he said.
"“I heard someone saying we shouldn’t expect a lot from these players but what are they going to do in the tournament? They have to go and win," he added.
Atsu was part of the team that reached the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, only to lose to Ivory Coast on penalties.
The Al Raed forward was player of the tournament, and last appeared at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars have not won the Nations Cup since 1982 and will be hoping to end the 40-year wait in Cameroon.
