Mohammed Kudus has been caught between a thin line and a rock after he was named in Ghana's final AFCON squad while he is on a mid-season camping with Ajax in Portugal.

The 21-year-old was included in coach Milovan Rajavac's squad despite being out with an injury since November.

Kudus has been Ghana's best player since making his debut for the Black Stars and remains an important member of the team, but picked up an injury in the game against South Africa and has not played competitively since.

His absence at AFCON will be a major blow to the Black Stars while Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag also wants him at the club.

The former FC Nordsjaelland player is expected to return to full fitness this month, and it is not clear if he will join the Black Stars later at the competition.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars are currently camping in Qatar ahead of the Nations Cup in Cameroon this month.

Ghana have lined up a friendly against Algeria on January 4, before leaving for Cameroon three days later.

The four times African champions have been drawn in Group C alongside Morocco, Gabon and the Comoros Island.
