Cheikhou Kouyaté received a rapturous welcome from his Crystal Palace teammates after retuning from the Africa Cup of Nations as a champion.

The 32-year-old midfielder starred as Senegal defeated Egypt in the finals of the Nations Cup to win the competition for the first time in the competitions history.

In a video posted on Twitter, Kouyaté was present with a Crystal Palace jersey as his teammates requested for a speech from the AFCON winner.

“I can’t explain this happiness,” he told the club's official website.
“It’s unbelievable – it was the best day of my life. The celebrations were too much!
“It’s crazy because we know it’s the first trophy for Senegal, and for us also it means we are now in the story of Senegal. When we were younger and Senegal were playing, we would support the team. Now you are a player in the team and you bring home the cup," he added.

Cheikhou Kouyaté played six of Senegal's seven games at the competition, scoring a goal as the Teranga Lions became champions.

The experienced midfielder will be hoping to translate his success from AFCON to his club as they strive to finish mid-table in the English Premier League.

Villareal present gift to AFCON winner Boulaye Dia

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Boulaye Dia, an unsung hero from Senegal's Africa Cup of Nations team, was given a standing ovation and presented with a boot-shaped plaque by Villareal following his return from international duty.

The 25-year-old attacker featured prominently as the Teranga Lions won the competition for the first time in their history a week ago.

Before Villareal's game against Real Madrid, the club presented him with a gift to appreciate his newest achievement.
