FootballRelive Tshepo 'Skhwama' Matete's Magic as Another PSL Team Gives Him a Chance
- Professional football teams in South Africa refuse to give up on Tshepo Matete
- 'Skhwama Sa Matariyana' gained popularity for his over the top showboating
- This time, it is the turn of Eastern Cape club Chippa United to give him a chance
The nickname 'Skhwama Sa Matariyana' is associated with beautiful chaos on a South African football field.
It belongs to the one and only Tshepho Matete, one of the most skillful soccer players to have been seen on the pitch, whether it be in an amateur or professional match.
He came to national prominence - and caught the attention of clubs - after he was seen on YouTube video compilations pulling off sensational tricks with the ball at his feet, leaving crowds under his spell on grassless pitches across Gauteng.
This saw the likes of Baroka FC, Township Rollers (Botswana), University of Pretoria, University of Pretoria, Mbabane Highlanders (Eswatini) and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila all race for his signing.

However, he has failed to live up to expectations despite the hype that his signings create, as spectators hunger for his own form of the divisive 'kasi flava'.
The now 31-year-old Skhwama has been given what could be a final chance to get his career going consistently in the Eastern Cape.
As per Transfermarkt, he was snapped up in the final hours of the January transfer window by Chippa United. The club shared a video on Twitter of its new acquisition, doing what he does best with the ball at his feet.
The posts read:
"TSHEPO "SKHWAMA" MATETE✍ The Club are delighted to announce the signing of Tshepo Matete. WELCOME SKHWAMA #PrideOfEasternCape #AyeyeChilliBoysAyeye ️️"
Matete will be reunited with Chilli Boys coach Morgan Mmamila, who gave him his break at Baroka in 2015 when he was the Limpopo club's chief executive officer.

Football'Blackberry' dismisses 'kasi flava' criticism
Another kasi flava merchant, Xolani 'Blackberry' Nkala defended his showboating after it was criticised for being pointless.
He was up to no good during the popular Philly's Games, held over the December and January festive season.
Nkala compared kasi football to football in Brazil, saying South African players had different skills to those of English players.
