  • Thiago Silva has issued an honest verdict on the short time Graham Potter has been at the helm of Chelsea
  • Potter has found the going tough in recent months with the Blues way off Champions League spots
  • Silva has worked with many top managers over the course of his career, which has lasted close to two decades

Veteran defender, Thiago Silva has refused to give his verdict on how well or poorly Graham Potter has adapted to his role at Chelsea.

The Blues are in unfamiliar territory, with the London side in 10th place and at great risk of missing out on European football next season.

Despite a decent start to his life at Stamford Bridge, Potter has struggled to churn out consistent results of late. The club is expected to back him and give him time to implement his tactics despite the season's outcome.

The Blues remain in two competitions, with the Champions League their only realistic chance of claiming silverware this season. They play Borussia Dortmund in a double-legged tie in the round of 16.

Silva's verdict on Potter

Speaking ahead of the game, Silva was asked to compare Potter with his former managers. Having led a long and illustrious career spanning close to two decades, the defender has had the opportunity to work with top-class managers.

Perhaps top of the bunch would be Thomas Tuchel, whom he worked with at Paris Saint-Germain before linking up again in England and winning the Champions League.

He has also worked with Massimiliano Allegri and Carlo Ancelotti, among others.

The Brazilian refused to be drawn into the comparisons however, saying Potter hasn't had enough time yet for such important discussions.

"I don’t like to make comparisons of people, styles of work. Everyone has their own way of doing things. However, in the short time I’ve had with Potter, I can see he is a great person and human being," he said as quoted by PariMatch.

Silva recently extended his Chelsea contract by one more year, keeping him at the club until 2024. Despite his advanced age, he remains one of the best players in his position.

John Terry gives Potter warning

Sports Brief also reported on Chelsea legend, John Terry cautioning Graham Potter amid the Blues ongoing struggles.

The West Londoners have struggled since Potter's arrival from Brighton & Hove Albion back in September 2022.

The 2021 UCL winners have managed just six points since the turn of the year, with their last three fixtures ending in draws.
