  • According to Carragher, Pulisic should take cue from former teammate Timo Werner, who has hit the ground running since his reunion with Leipzig in the summer

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has urged Chelsea star Christian Pulisic to follow Timo Werner's example and dump the Blues.

Werner quit Stamford Bridge in the summer, barely two years after he joined the Premier League giants from RB Leipzig.

Werner's latest goal came on Tuesday night, when he found the back of the net during Leipzig's thrilling 3-2 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Pulisic told to leave Chelsea

Carragher now believes that Pulisic should follow Werner's example and consider leaving Stamford Bridge.

The American winger has endured a difficult stay with the Blues in recent months, with lack of form and game time compounding his woes at the club.

According to Carragher, a move away could help the former Borussia Dortmund star to rediscover his spark.

"Rather than just sitting on the bench another year or two, he (Werner) has gone back to somewhere where he’s going to play week in, week out," Carragher told CBS Sports via Metro UK. "I just think Pulisic is sort of at that stage now where there’s been a few managerial changes."

How Salzburg versus Chelsea played out

Sports Brief also reported that Chelsea qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League, as Kai Havertz's sumptuous strike earned a 2-1 win away to Salzburg.

The victory extended the Blues' unbeaten run under new manager Graham Potter to nine games, as they moved four points above the Austrian champions at the top of Group E.

Chelsea's bright start under Potter has been undermined by failing to turn their approach play into goals, which was the case in a dominant first 45 minutes.
