Former Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has sent his condolences to the people of Indonesia after the tragic events of Saturday left many dead at the end of a football game.
Over 127 people have been reported deal while over 200 fans have suffered various degrees of injuries.
Essien, who played in Indonesia during the twilight of his career, took to social media to express his pain following the news of the stampede.
"Heartbreaking. Our thoughts and prayers goes out to the victims and their families and friends. Indonesia," he wrote on Instagram.

Essien became a cult-hero for Persib Bandung after arriving in Indonesia with a huge reputation from the English Premier League.
The former Chelsea man made 29 appearances, scoring five goals for Persib Bandung.
These days Essien works as assistant manager for Danish outfit FC Nordsjaelland as he hones his coaching skills.
