  • Diego Costa is set for a shock return to the Premier League, with Wolves exploring the idea of bringing the ex-Chelsea striker to the English top-flight
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly considering a move for Costa following injury setbacks to forwards Sasa Kalajdzic and Raul Jimenez
  • The former Spain international notched 59 goals in 120 games during his three-season stint with Chelsea

Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa could make a dramatic return to the English Premier League with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Costa is going to have a trial with Wolves this week to assess his fitness and suitability after injuries to forwards Sasa Kalajdzic and Raul Jimenez, reports the BBC.

The 33-year-old goal poacher has been clubless since leaving Brazilian outfit Atletico Mineiro in January but could make a return to the Premier League following injuries to Wolves' forwards Sasa Kalajdzic and Raul Jimenez.

Kalajdzic, a deadline-day signing, suffered an injury setback on his debut when he subbed off in Wolves' narrow win over Southampton.

The club say scans showed an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and he will see a knee specialist on Monday.

“Sasa felt a pain in his knee late in the first half against Southampton. Unfortunately, scans reveal an anterior cruciate injury and he will see a knee specialist tomorrow," a club statement read.

Wolves will be dealing with a double agony as marksman Raul Jimenez has also aggravated a knee injury he suffered in pre-season.

“It was felt that his body needed a few more days to recover after he felt a pain in his groin during the warm-up and we did not want to put him at increased risk of injury."

As a result of this double setback, it is understood Wolves are considering a move for Costa, who is currently a free agent.

Championship side Birmingham are exploring the idea of bringing Diego Costa to England

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Chelsea striker Diego Costa could make a dramatic comeback to English football with Birmingham City interested in his services. The championship side is currently involved in an ownership battle.

One of the prospective new owners wants to sign Costa as his first player. The current Chinese owners have put the club up for sale.

Former Barcelona and AC Milan player Maxi Lopez is one of the frontrunners to take over at Birmingham. Lopez is understood to be ready to sign Costa as they gun for promotion next season. -
