Kalidou Koulibaly has offered his opinion on why Romelu Lukaku struggled to find his feet at Chelsea last season.

Lukaku made a fairytale return to Chelsea last summer following a stellar two-year campaign in Italy, inspiring Inter Milan to end their 11-year Scudetto jinx.

After a blistering start to life at Stamford Bridge, the Belgian forward struggled to replicate his Inter Milan form at Chelsea last term and has since returned to Inter on a season-long loan deal.

"Romelu is a good player, a nice player, a talented player," Koulibaly said as quoted by GOAL.
"He is very strong and I was used to playing against him in Italy – I think he didn’t like to play against me!"
He added, opening up on his move to Chelsea: "He scored a lot of goals in Italy and he won the Scudetto with Inter, so when he signed for Chelsea I was not surprised.
"Last year I think maybe he didn’t have the confidence he needed to play as he wanted. Maybe something else, I don’t know.
"Football is not all about the pitch, it is also your private life and everything else, so maybe it was something that didn't work with him over here."

Ex-Chelsea defender Glen Johnson labels Lukaku as the club's worst ever signing

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that retired English defender Glen Johnson has slammed Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku.

The former Chelsea and Liverpool full-back described the Belgian striker, who is currently on loan at Inter Milan, as the worst signing in Chelsea's history.

Lukaku rejoined Chelsea for a colossal fee of £97.5million but his fairytale return to Stamford Bridge did not go according to plan with the Belgian scoring 15 goals in 43 appearances for the Blues across all competitions.
