Jurgen Klopp's side were not ready to lose another star player after seeing Sadio Mane leave the club to sign up for Bayern Munich. Chelsea's interest was considered a strong one given that the club needs attacking reinforcements.

Had the transfer gone through, Salah would have rejoined a club that he played for between 2014 and 2016.

His spell at Chelsea was underwhelming as he only registered 13 Premier League appearances. He was sold to AS Roma before returning to the Premier League with Liverpool.

It has been a highly- successful spell for Salah under Klopp where they have won every available trophy to them. Salah will now hope to help Liverpool wrestle the title from Manchester City next season.

Gary Neville tells Liverpool Mohammed Salah has played them with the new deal

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Gary Neville had thrown a cheeky damper at Liverpool after Mohammed Salah penned a new deal to stay at the club.

Salah is set to be a Liverpool player for at least three more years after the Egyptian finally signed a new contract on Friday, July 1.

The signature put an end to speculation that Liverpool had slapped a price tag on Salah only days after Sadio Mane’s departure.
