Chelsea have received a major boost in the pursuit of their first summer signing of the Tod Boelhy era.

The Blues are looking to bolster their defence after the exit of Antonio Rudiger, who has since joined Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Reports from The Sun indicate Thomas Tuchel’s side have been monitoring Lens ace Jonathan Clauss, and are now poised to sign him after the French side signed another right back.

Tuchel is determined to avoid such a scenario next season, and it is believed that the signing of Clauss would solve that problem.

The right-back, despite pre-dominantly playing in defense, also has a knack of scoring goals as he notched five for Lens last season, and also provided a further eleven assists.

Chelsea should have little problems capturing the Frenchman, who has in the past expressed interest in joining the Stamford Bridge landlords.

Furthermore, his contract at Lens expires next summer, and the French club would prefer to cash in on him now than to let him walk for free in a year’s time.
