Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is said to have been emotional when he received the news that a compromise had been reached for him to return to Inter Milan.
Chelsea and Inter Milan have reached a deal in principle that will see Romelu Lukaku head back to Inter Milan on loan.
Lukaku joined Chelsea just last season in a club-record fee of 97.5 million euros, but on-and-off the pitch issues resulted in him wanting to move back to Milan.
The Daily Mail reports that the Belgian was emotional when his lawyer Sebastian Ledure informed him that a deal had been agreed on.
The report further states that Lukaku took a 35% pay cut to seal the move
He was expected to be the missing piece of Thomas Tuchel's attack. He started brightly with Premier League games against Arsenal and Aston Villa but fizzled out as the season progressed.
His place in the Chelsea team was continuously under threat, with prodigy Kai Havertz filling the position. He then gave an unauthorised interview where he appeared to blame Tuchel's tactics and spoke of his desire to head back to Inter Milan.
BBC Sports reports that the loan fee will be around 8 million euros. Inter Milan's President Steven Zhang personally joined the negotiations on Monday to strike the deal.
New Chelsea owner is understood to have been of the idea that a Lukaku exit was better for all the parties. Lukaku now heads back to a club where he enjoyed massive success after guiding them to the Seria A title.
