  • Chelsea made Premier League history after beating Watford 2-1 on the final game of the season
  • Goals from Kai Havertz and Ross Barkley handed Chelsea a well-deserved victory over the Hornets
  • This feat meant that Chelsea have become the first team in Premier League to go through a whole season without being behind at half-time

Ross Barkley's late header ensured Chelsea finished the 2021-22 campaign with a narrow victory over Watford at Stamford Bridge.

The English midfielder nodded Reece James' cross past goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann to earn the Blues all three points on Sunday afternoon.

The goal came four minutes after Dan Gosling had grabbed a late equaliser for the visitors.

Chelsea took the lead through Kai Havertz who finished off a low cross from Kenedy to give the hosts the lead early in the first half.

Gosling's header from Adam Masina's delivery appeared to have earned Watford a share of the spoils, but Barkley scored with virtually the last moment of action to deny Roy Hodgson's team.

This feat meant that the Blues made history, becoming the first team in Premier League to go through a whole season without ever being behind at half-time.

It was also the last game for defender Antonio Rudiger.

Thomas Tuchel's side ended the season third in the league, topping off the season with victory over already-relegated Watford.

Sports Brief earlier reported that Antonio Rudiger has no words to describe soon-to-be former teammate N'Golo Kanté as he leaves Chelsea after the last game of the season against relegated Watford.

The Germany international failed to sign a new contract with the Blues as he heads to Spain to join Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

However, in the latest edition of The Players' Tribune Dear Chelsea, the former AS Roma star opened up on his relationship with N’Golo Kanté.
