Chelsea may overtake the NBA side, the Brooklyn Nets, to become the most expensive sports team in history when the London club is finally sold.

Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich has been forced to put the Stamford Bridge club up for sale following Government sanctions following the invasion of Ukraine.

According to a report via Sport Bible, Abramovich is hoping for around £3.5 billion to sell the Chelsea which is inclusive of the £1.5 billion the Russian is being owed in loans.

If the sale goes through, Chelsea will surpass the current record of £2.5 billion set by the Brooklyn Nets when the NBA Franchise was sold to Joseph Tsai in 2019.

20 parties have already indicated interest to buy the Stamford Bridge club after submitting bids to the Raine Group, who are helping Abramovich sell Chelsea.

Ricketts family fly to London as the race to buy the Blues hots up

Meanwhile, the Ricketts family are flying to London to meet key Chelsea stakeholders as they push their bid to buy the London Club from Roman Abramovich.

According to Sky Sports, the Ricketts are waiting to discover if they are on the shortlist of preferred bidders for the club.

The ownership of Chelsea is expected to change within a month as the Raine Group, who are in charge of the Blues sale, are set to announce a shortlist of the best-placed groups to take control of the club.

Swiss Billionaire Confirms Big Offer From Roman Abramovich

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Chelsea are now on the verge of being sold after Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss confirmed that he has been approached by Roman Abramovich.

Roman Abramovich has been under serious criticism following Russia's attack on Ukraine and the situation forced him to hand over the control of the Blues to some people.

But despite his decision, there have been talks that Roman Abramovich should not be allowed to own any property in England due to the fact that he is a Russian.
