Youssoufa Moukoko made his senior debut for the German national team on Wednesday evening.
The 17-year-old has been in impressive form this season for Borussia Dortmund and earned a call-up for the tournament.
Hansi Flick named the youngster as part of his 26-man squad for the global showpiece, as one of the surprise additions to the team.
The Cameroonian-born was given a starting berth for the Die Mannschaft in their final pre-World Cup warm-up match against Oman at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.

Aged 17 years and 361 days, Moukoko made history as he became the youngest player to represent Germany since Uwe Seeler in 1954.
He also became the fourth youngest player to play for Germany overall.
The youngster nearly marked the occasion with a goal in the first-half stoppage time, only for the post to deny him.
Moukoko was replaced by Niclas Füllkrug at half-time, who also made his Germany debut. And the Werder Bremen striker went on to score the winner in the 80th minute.
Mokouko’s impressive season
Moukoko has been breaking records for Dortmund and will be looking to do the same for Germany.
The Bundesliga’s website reported that Moukoko is the youngest player to score 10 goals in the league and is also the youngest player to play in the Bundesliga, making his debut at 16 years.
He's also the Bundesliga’s youngest scorer.

Youssoufa Moukoko has made history in the Bundesliga and did it in superb style, Sports Brief had earlier reported.
The Borussia Dortmund youngster scored twice in the game between Borussia Dortmund and Vfl Bochum, surpassing Florian Wirtz and Lukas Podolski to a Bundesliga record in the process.
