  • Karim Adeyemi and Nico Schlotterbeck both gave fans a reason to worry after sustaining knocks during the game
  • Borussia Dortmund already have one major injury concern as they are without Sébastien Haller for a prolonged period of time

Borussia Dortmund are nervously waiting for the fitness updates of two players following their victory over Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Karim Adeyemi and Nico Schlotterbeck both suffered knocks during the game, with Adeyemi being taken off after 23 minutes.

Schlotterbeck also went off but returned after brief treatment in the tunnel.

Dortmund would win the game 1-0 thanks to a goal by Marco Reus, but Adeyemi’s injury, in particular, overshadowed the win, SkySports reported.

Speaking after the victory, Adeyemi played down the injury, explaining that it was just a problem with his big toe, Bulinews reported.

"It's already better. The swelling is down. It's probably just an overstretching of the tendon or something on the capsule," he said.

Schlotterbeck also took time out to explain why he had to go off for a brief period of time in the second half. The newly-acquired defender explained that his shoulder had popped out of the socket during the game.

"It was a little injury problem. The doc popped it back in ad gave me the all-clear to go back on the pitch. I'm a defender so I need to be a little tougher," he added.

Dortmund are already without Sébastien Haller for a prolonged period of time and will be hoping that each player’s injuries are as minor as they say.

Dortmund will be in action on Friday again when they take on SC Freiburg. Freiburg got off to a brilliant start as they beat FC Augsburg 4-0.

Dortmund kick off the Bundesliga campaign with a win over Leverkusen

A first-half strike by Marco Reus has earned Borussia Dortmund a 1-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen on the opening weekend of the Bundesliga.

Reus' goal came during the first ten minutes of the game, ensuring that Dortmund also record a win following Bayern Munich's thrashing of Frankfurt a day before.

As expected, manager Edin Terzic included summer signings in his starting lineups, with Nico Schlotterbeck and Karim Adeyemi featuring in the Dortmund XI.
