"Joao hasn't been training and playing the way we envisaged lately," he said. "We're in regular communication with him. I understand how he feels, but he is an excellent player who will become important to us in the future."

Cancelo has lost his place in the team to the club’s academy product Josip Stanisic, who has displaced the Portuguese.

Joao Cancelo set to leave Bayern Munich

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich have already decided not to sign Joao Cancelo on a permanent basis when his loan deal expires this summer, SB Nation reports.

The 28-year-old had been one of Manchester City's most crucial players over the previous two seasons, but he abruptly left the team in January to sign a loan deal with the Bundesliga champions.

The Portugal international, who transferred to Manchester City from Juventus back in 2019, is reportedly attracting interest from both Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Cancelo explains why he dumped Man City

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Joao Cancelo has cleared the air about the reason behind his sensational switch to Bayern Munich in the just-ended January transfer window.

The defender completed his loan move from Manchester City to the Bundesliga giants on transfer deadline day, with that deal including an option to purchase permanently.

Cancelo is believed to have reacted angrily after learning he would not be in the starting line-up for Man City's FA Cup tie with Arsenal.
