FootballGavi: Barcelona’s Appeal Over Youngster’s Registration Rejected by Court
- Barcelona’s appeal to register Gavi has been rejected in court
- The youngster will return to a youth contract and lose his No. 6 shirt
- His contract also includes a clause that allows him to leave for free in the summer
Pablo Gavi is reportedly no longer a first team player at Barcelona after their appeal was rejected by the court.
La Liga had initially not given La Blaugrana the greenlight to register the 18-year-old in its first team after the midfielder penned a new contract with the club.
According to ESPN, the Spanish league body did not clear the deal because Barcelona were in excess of their spending limit, prompting the Catalans to take the matter to court.
The court then ordered La Liga to accept Gavi's registration because doing otherwise 'would imply the player's free agency and therefore cause serious, irreparable damage to Barca', as his previous contracts were set to expire this summer. This was then later on reversed.

The Catalan giants had appealed against the reversal last Wednesday, but their appeal has now been rejected by the 10th Commercial Court of Barcelona, meaning Gavi will no longer be counted as a first-team member.
The only way for the 18-year-old to be registered is if Barcelona manage to reduce the wage bill.
According to the Athletic, La Liga will return Gavi’s status to that of a Barcelona academy player, which means a release clause allowing him to leave for nothing this summer now comes back into effect.
Barcelona risk losing midfielder Gavi
Meanwhile, Barcelona are at risk of losing Gavi for nothing this summer following a court reversing its ruling on the registration of the midfielder, Tribal Football reports.
Premier League giants, Liverpool and Manchester City are watching developments closely and could swoop in if the Catalans fail in their bid to have him registered.
