Brazilian legend, Ronaldinho has congratulated Los Lakers Angeles superstar, LeBron James after breaking and setting a new NBA scoring record.

The four-time NBA champion surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the all-time scorers chart after 36 points in the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on February 7.

James broke the record that stood for 38 years and now sits on top with 38,390 points.

Ronaldinho joined a long list of sporting stars to have reacted to James' greatness, by sharing the moment with the former Miami Heat player.

"Congratulations LeBron James for this historic achievement!!! Greatest scorer in NBA history... Long live the king," he wrote on Twitter.

Just like James, Ronaldinho is one of the greatest footballers of all-time, winning two Ballon d'Or awards and the FIFA World Cup with Brazil.

The Brazilian legend watched the Lakers star during the All-Star games in 2017 and has become friends with the NBA player.

James has interest in football and holds a stake in Premier League giants, Liverpool.

LeBron James breaks scoring record

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the NBA scoring record is now in LeBron James' possession.

He made history on Tuesday night, moving past Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the associatio's all-time leading scorer.

James became the scoring king after hitting a tough fadeaway jumper near the end of the third quarter, when the Lakers faced the OKC Thunder.

Sports Brief also reported on LeBron James writing history in the NBA, after hitting 38 points in the Lakers' defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

He moved to 38,390 career points to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's record of 38,387, which was set a few months before the 38-year-old was born.

The achievement received praise from across the world, including from personalities and organisations outside of America's most popular sport.
